You do get a virtual hug from me. First, the bad news, this is training for when he is three (mine is 3) and no longer takes a nap. Sorry, but it is coming. And *dramatic sighing* I haven't figured out the solution yet myself. My friend Kristi wrote a great blog post on this topic in Sept. 09 because I asked her the same question. I can't find it on her page, but here is the link where I blogged about it. (The link to her main page is in the blog)

<a href="http://bradfam.blogspot.com/2009/09/answers-to-life-from-writers.html" rel="nofollow">Answers to life</a>

This is on my personal family page, but I don't mind if you check it out. I plan on re-blogging it onto my writing blog, but there is that whole "time to work on my novel" thing that I try and do first. :) In a nutshell, just prioritizing and making the time is the best you can do. With little ones, your plans might be derailed a day or two. In the end, will it be more important that you wrote 500+ words or that you held your little guy tight while he was in pain?

Life for moms is never easy, but infinitely rewarding. Good luck!

Eek, I've been struggling over that fine line of balance and guilt and productivity myself. It must be extra-challenging with a 2 year old too. I really like the idea of reporting wordcount to a designated cheerleader/taskmaster though!

My best friend has a two year-old. So the fact that you get ANY writing done makes you my hero. For me though, I have to have dedicated writing times and goals. I'm a terrible procrastinator, so strict goals are the only way for me.

Plus, I have to eliminate all distractions like the internet and twitter and such. I've got a good routine going but I get flustered when that's interrupted. For instance, this morning I was visited by my exterminator at 9am, which was smack dab in the middle of my writing time. It totally threw me off my game. When it comes to stuff like that, I think we just have to roll with it. Writing's serious, but it's got to be fun too.
